about

The first slide was very popular when I was growing up and I always liked to play it. Source for notated version: fiddler John Kelly (Ireland) [Breathnach]. Breathnach (CRÉ III), 1985; No. 51, pg. 23. Bulmer & Sharpley (Music from Ireland), 1976, vol. 4; No. 59 (appears as “Mickey O’Callaghan’s”). Vallely (Learn to Play the Tin Whistle with the Armagh Pipers Club), vol. 2; 3. Gael‑Linn Records CEF 018, John Kelly ‑ "Seoda Ceoil I" (1968). GTD Records, Micho Russell – “Limestone Rock” (1989. Appears as “Kerry Slide”). Triskel Records, Micho Russell (1982). The tune was also associated with Patrick Kelly from Cree, Co. Clare.
The second slide in this set I learned form the playing of Julia Clifford. Source for notated version: accordion player Denis Doody (Co. Kerry, Ireland) [Breathnach]; accordion player Johnny O’Leary (Sliabh Luachra region of the Cork-Kerry border) [Moylan]. Breathnach (CRE III), 1985; No. 54, pg. 24. Mac Amhlaoibh & Durham (An Pota Stóir: Ceol Seite Corca Duibne/The Set Dance Music of West Kerry), No. 58, pg. 37 (appears as “Gan Ainm” {untitled}). Moylan (Johnny O’Leary), 1994; No. 134, pg. 78. Mulligan Records LUN 019, Denis Doody ‑ "Denis Doody Kerry Music" (1978). Topic 12T311, John & Julia Clifford - “Humours of Lisheen” (appears untitled). Topic 12T358, “Jackie Daly” (appears as “Going to the Well for Water”).
