about

I got these two tunes from a recording of Johnny O’Leary which are on a CD titled “ Round The House and Mind the Dresser. The first hornpipe is a version of a tune “ Behind the Ditch in Páirc Anna which I recorded with Charlie Piggott on the album “ The New Road”. The tune is often played around East Clare and originally comes from the playing of concertina player Ella May O’Dwyer who lived in Athea Co. Limerick and had an abundance of rare music. The second tune is from Tom Billy Murphy (1879-1944), a native of Ballydesmond, west Kerry, was an influential fiddler and teacher in the Sliabh Luachra region of the Cork-Kerry border during the early twentieth century, and was a contemporary of the great Kerry fiddler Padraig O’Keeffe.
